Himalayan pink salt grades: food, industrial and animal lick
Short answer
Bulk Himalayan pink salt is usually sold in three grades: food grade for eating and food production, industrial grade for non-food uses, and animal-lick salt for livestock. Each grade comes in grain sizes from fine to chunks, packed in 25 kg or 50 kg bags or 1 MT bulk bags. SilkStone Trading supplies all three grades from processors in the Salt Range, Punjab, Pakistan, with a lab report for every lot.
Food grade
Food-grade pink salt is for eating, cooking and food manufacturing. It's what goes into grinders, jars, spice blends and recipes. Buy it on the lab report: ask for sodium chloride, moisture and insoluble matter on every lot, and add lead, cadmium, arsenic and mercury if your customers or your market ask for them.
Industrial grade
Industrial-grade salt is for non-food uses, so the spec is set by the application rather than by food rules. Tell the supplier what it's for and which parameters matter to you, and get samples in that grain before you commit to a container.
Animal lick salt
Animal-lick salt is sold as loose lick salt or as lick blocks for livestock. Farm supply and feed buyers usually order it by the container.
Grain sizes
Pink salt is ground to fine, medium and coarse grain, and also sold as granules and chunks. Grinders take coarse grain, shakers take fine. If you're replacing a salt you already buy, send a photo or a sample of it and ask for a match.
Packing
Bulk pink salt ships in 25 kg or 50 kg bags, or in 1 MT bulk bags, in 20ft containers. Salt blocks and cooking slabs are packed separately. If you want it filled into retail packs under your brand, see private label Himalayan salt.
How to order samples
